Préface pour la exhibition à Centre Culturel Suédois
Lars Bergquist
Centre Culturel Suédois, Paris, 1980
Lars Bergquist, Swedish Ambassador to France, writes the preface for the catalogue of Sivert Lindblom's exhibition at the Centre Culturel Suédois in Paris, 1980.
Sivert Lindblom's sculpture belongs to a Nordic tradition of formal rigour — a tradition running from Brancusi to Arp, but also drawing from something older, more archaic. In these works there is something that evokes vanished civilisations, ritual objects whose function we have lost but whose presence endures.
The weight of Lindblom's sculptures is not only physical, but ontological. They occupy space with an assurance that is not arrogance but necessity. Sweden is proud to present this exceptional artist in Paris.
