It is rare for a catalog foreword to give rise to interesting remarks. However, the foreword by mathematician and author Leon Rappaport to Ulrik Samuelson and Sivert Lindblom's exhibition at Galerie Burén is worth a comment. Instead of the usual promotion of the artist, one finds a bold, speculative, and precisely focused essay on the conditions of visual art. This foreword constitutes a small footbridge laid across the gap between "the two cultures," the humanistic-aesthetic and the scientific. It is probably not as easy to traverse in one direction as in the other. It probably takes hold best on Rappaport's side. However, as a tendency and a sign of the times, these reflections are worth noting and welcoming by us aesthetes. … | …
