Blasieholms torg

Rebecka Tarschys reviews the inauguration of Sivert Lindblom's horses at Blasieholmstorg, Stockholm 1989, in Dagens Nyheter.

It rarely happens that public art creates an immediate and natural presence in urban space. The horses at Blasieholmstorg are one such exception. Sivert Lindblom's two green-patinated bronze horses — modelled after the originals in St Mark's Basilica in Venice — have established themselves in Stockholm's urban landscape as if they had always been there.

Lindblom has not slavishly copied the San Marco horses. He has interpreted them, given them a new character suited to Blasieholmstorg's Nordic light and proximity to the sea. It is a masterwork of public art.
