Ars Baltica was an exhibition project, the fourth in a series and the last in a unique initiative. Visby stads konstkommitté, in collaboration with Gotlands Konstförening and Gotlands fornsal, organized collective exhibitions of modern art from countries around the Baltic Sea, including the Soviet Union. For the last exhibition in 1970, Sivert Lindblom presented two stainless steel supports that were later acquired by Västerhaninge Kulturhus.
The ARS BALTICA network has been revived and brings together the countries around the Baltic Sea by promoting cultural cooperation. It supports the implementation of high-quality artistic or cultural projects with a strong focus on the Baltic Sea region and creates a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experiences in cultural cooperation.
"Capacity Building and Cultural Sustainability" are Ars Baltica's objectives. Its activities rest on three key concepts: Exchange – They bring together cultural practitioners and stakeholders from the region to continuously contribute to the international dialogue on culture and creativity in the Baltic Sea region. Expertise – They monitor cultural trends in the region, create synergies, and offer cultural practitioners from the Baltic Sea region training in relevant and important areas. Visibility – They believe that cultural practitioners from the region deserve greater attention for their outstanding work; therefore, we support them in creating visibility for their projects, both digitally and physically.
