Tivoliparken Kristianstad, 1988-89

"In Tivoliparken, there is the sculpture group Romantic Construction, executed in oxidized cast iron and placed north of the theater. The sculpture is integrated into the park's vegetation and creates a subdued and romantic encounter between the artwork, the greenery, and the people strolling through the park. Its placement means that the work does not immediately appear as a monument. Instead, it is something one can discover suddenly during one's stroll – a sculptural presence emerging from the vegetation.

The urn was cast at Månsarps foundry under the direction of Johan Åkesson. The dark, oxidized cast iron contrasts with the park's vegetation, allowing the classic urn shape to emerge with both weight and simplicity. At the same time, its placement among the trees and vegetation gives the sculpture a changing expression, where the shifting seasons become part of the experience.

Tivoliparken has rich and varied vegetation with many unusual tree species and several older, large trees. The park also contains the buildings Fornstugan and Tivoliteatern, an outdoor stage, the large themed playground Väsenlekplatsen, as well as extensive grassy areas for play and relaxation.

The park also houses Hälsoträdgården and is traversed by several trails and promenades, including the national cycle route Sydostleden, Skåneleden, and Tivolirundan, which follows Helge å. Despite its central location, Tivoliparken has a peaceful character. The vegetation, the open grassy areas, and the park's various functions create an environment for both activity and tranquility.

In this context, Romantic Construction becomes part of the park's own rhythm. The sculpture does not require a specific viewing from a distance, but meets the visitor in motion through the landscape. It thus functions as an artistic extension of the park's idea: a place where the city gradually transitions into nature, and where the artwork can be discovered rather than sought out."
