The museum's facade facing Sölvegatan
In connection with an extension of the museum, Sivert was commissioned in 1987 to design the new facade facing Sölvegatan. The task was to give the facade a sculptural and distinct expression – an expression that would both embody and represent the building and at the same time make it a prominent feature in the cityscape.

The client was Byggnadsstyrelsen, with architects Leif Lindstrand as project manager and Birgitta Olsson as contributing architect. The renovation was carried out during the period when Gunnar Bråhammar was museum director.

"The facade is made of pink render and is traversed by rows of recessed light blue ceramic tiles. The regularly placed tiles give the large rendered surface a rhythm and a graphic expression, while the color contrast enhances the facade's distinctiveness.

High up on each side of the large window hang two sculpted and cast bronze profiles by Sivert. They appear like two guardians watching over the entrance area and give the facade a human and at the same time monumental element. The bronze profiles contrast with the geometric and color-restrained facade and enhance its sculptural character.

Here, the sculpture thus becomes not an addition to the architecture but an integrated part of the facade design itself. The two profiles, the ceramics, and the color of the render collaborate to make the building an artistic object in the urban space."
