Norra begravningsplatsen – Wolodarski

Sivert has been given the honorary commission to design a funeral memorial for Boleslaw Wolodarski (1917–1996), located at Norra skogskyrkogården in Solna, in block 11 along Stora Gravkorets väg.

The memorial urn can be seen as a paraphrase of the urn forms that recur in Sivert's oeuvre and which are also part of the design around Blasieholmstorg in Stockholm. Here, the form has been given a particularly tranquil and meditative placement under the foliage of a guardian tree.

The memorial can be perceived as a sculpted and elevated vessel – a bucket or an amphora – placed on a plinth. On each side, handles, or lugs, appear, enclosing the form. They seem not only to hold the vessel together but also to give the impression of enclosing something that grows and can simultaneously overflow, like water from a spring or a well.

The vessel can be filled with plants that follow the year's changes, thereby allowing the memorial site to transform with the seasons. The vegetation can also be chosen to reinforce the feeling of the deceased's presence in the present. In this way, the memorial becomes not merely a monument to the past, but also a place where memory lives on through nature's recurring cycles.

The sculpted vessel thus becomes a container for both vegetation and symbolism – for life, absence, and return. Through the changes of the seasons, the memorial site is constantly given new expressions, while the fixed sculptural form remains as a tranquil and lasting memory of the deceased."
